Suggestions, please!

Ok, so I'm 36 weeks prego today (AAAHHH!) and decided it's time to pack my hospital bag. Problem is.... I'm not sure what to pack! I've looked at about a billion lists, but they only add to my confusion. Some have tons of stuff, most of which seems ridiculous (but what do I know?) and some have hardly anything. So, all you moms out there, what are your recommendations? What is necessary, and what is nice to have? Thanks in advance!

First, if you talk to someone who has given birth in the same hospital you are going to,that will help since every hospital is a little different. You can ask them questions about how it works where you are going to be at.

Things to have for the hospital:

1. Your own pillow
2. Chapstick
3. LOTION (if you use it), I would go nuts if I didn't have my own there to use.
4. Slippers are nice so you don't have to walk around those floors in bare feet. Take comfy - baggy - clothes. Unfortunately your stomach is not going shrink as much as you would like by the time you leave the hospital.
5. I like to start using Lanolin in the hospital (that's for you if you're nursing cause you are going to get sore!)
6. Don't forget a camera and your phone!

For the baby:
1. Wipes that say ALCOHOL FREE - their brand new skin can get really sore, chapped, or diaper rashed easily.
2. Going along with that - diaper cream!
3. I would also recommend a premie outfit - or at least one that says "Newborn" (they are different than 0-3 month ones), because even if you have a big baby those 0-3 months clothes will drown them to begin with!

Good luck with everything!

I agree with Kim on most things. If you're going to nurse lanolin cream is good, but there's also something called soothies that are a life saver, and you can't use the cream if you use the soothies... they are a gel-like pad that you put right on... well you know! Baggy clothes for the way home, but I stayed in my hospital gown the whole time I was in the hospital cause you have to have fully access to go to the bathroom... I didn't wear my g's right after I had the kids, cause the docs and nurses check you so much you don't have time to take them on and off... the top isn't a problem, but the bottoms, I didn't use. BUY UNDERWEAR! I know it sounds weird, but until your 5 or 6 weeks post-baby, you will be glad you have them... you may only have to use them for a coule of weeks, but it's a lot easier to attach the pads you need to them instead of the g's. wow... hope this isn't too graphic and scary! Definitely take your own shower stuff... personal care items you always use... slippers- yes- rubber bands and bobby pins... you will not be wanting to do your hair! Any baby stuff you want, but like Kim said, even though you think you might have a big baby- get a newborn outfit... unless you're like me with Ansleigh and it won't fit... take a couple options. Wow... this is like a novel. Sorry! Hope that helped... but I think less is more... like I said- you don't need a bunch of changes of clothes... you will want to be comfy. If you have your own robe, take it, the hospital ones are kind of stiff usually. K I'm going to stop now... really!

For some reason I have always ended up sending my husband home for stuff...hahaha. But the things I always want: sweats and a comfortable (roomy) t-shirt, mascara :), and I'm totally with Kim on the pillow--hospital pillows suck, a list of people you don't want to forget to call! As for the baby, like Kim says, it depends on the hospital. Bring along a cute outfit, most like to take pictures, but Powell provided all the baby stuff like diapers, wipes, etc and we even got to take the extra home.

pillow was the thing i made Erik go back and get. It was just nice to have there for some comfort! But my best advice i could give you is just to relax!! I am sure you have everything :)
